O Christmas Tree

Annual holiday decorating contest returns

Every December, Ozarks Healthcare’s departments unleash their creativity in a friendly competition to decorate Christmas trees, each vying for the title of "most festive." This annual tradition, filled with good-natured rivalry, not only brings holiday cheer to the hospital but also fosters a sense of community and giving.

“The contest is something employees really look forward to,” said Jennifer Wheeler, OZH senior executive assistant. “It brings out the best in everyone.” Wheeler fondly recalled her time at the Behavioral Health Center, where her team won multiple times. “One year, we did a Candyland theme with candy-shaped ornaments and a Candyland game under the tree. It was so much fun,” she said.

Each department decorates its tree according to a chosen theme, with past entries including the Grinch, Thomas the Train, and Candyland. Many departments take it a step further by adopting a family in need, placing gifts under their tree to add an extra layer of generosity.

Once decorated, the trees are photographed and shared on the hospital’s Facebook page, where the public votes for their favorite. This year’s competition saw nearly 20 entries, each showcasing the creative talents of the hospital's staff.

But the event is about more than just winning. “This contest gives you a sense of belonging within the community,” Wheeler said. “You're helping your fellow community members, and it warms your heart. It makes you want to give, not just at Christmas, but all year round.”

Thanks to your votes, the Behavioral Health Center (BHC) took home the top prize this year, earning bragging rights and the admiration of their peers for their beautifully decorated tree.

BHC Christmas TreeAfter the contest, all the trees were donated to Ozark Action, Inc., a local nonprofit, spreading Christmas joy to families in need. “It’s about more than just competition,” Wheeler said. “It’s about coming together as a community and making the holidays brighter for others.”

Congratulations to the BHC team, and thank you to everyone who helped spread the holiday spirit by voting and participating in this heartwarming tradition!
