Delinda Campbell finds fulfillment and connection through volunteering at Ozarks Healthcare

In today’s busy, overstimulated world, many people struggle to keep up with life's demands. Ironically, it's this busyness many miss most when children grow up and professional responsibilities transition into retirement.

This was the experience of Delinda Campbell, a volunteer at Ozarks Healthcare, who chose volunteering to fill her newfound free time.

“I stayed at home raising my children and partially homeschooled them. We enjoyed it greatly,” said Campbell. “I also helped my husband, Keith, on our farm. We've always worked together.

“As my children grew up and began their own families, I found myself with a lot of extra time. My son took over my role on the farm, leaving me searching for something meaningful to do.”

Prompted by her daughter Amber Tooley, a nurse practitioner in the orthopedics and spine clinic at Ozarks Healthcare, Campbell began volunteering at the hospital’s gift shop and the off-site thrift store. Initially volunteering two days a week, she soon transitioned to a paid position at the thrift store, while continuing her volunteer shifts at the gift shop.

Campbell deeply appreciates her role, seeing it as a way to give back for the care she previously received.

“I wanted to give back because I've faced cancer multiple times, and the community supported me immensely,” she said. “Knowing that proceeds from the thrift store and gift shop directly benefit the hospital is truly amazing.”

Interaction with coworkers and community members is another rewarding aspect of her volunteer experience.

“Connecting with people and learning more about the hospital has been wonderful,” Campbell added. “I frequently assist visitors who need directions or information, pointing them to someone who can help further. Volunteering is incredibly rewarding, and I encourage everyone to get involved. It's beneficial for everyone involved.”
